Creer es crear es una película de Santiago Pando, ex-publicista exitoso mexicano que decidió dejar el mundo de las marcas y moverse a otro contexto menos vanal y mucho más elevado. Tuve la fortuna de conocer a Santiago hace más de 10 años y desde entonces me queda clara su profunda sensibilidad para la esencia del ser humano y me llena de gusto saber que redireccionó su energia a este proyecto que puede ser de tanto bienestar para la sociedad, sobre todo en estos tiempos.

"Creer es crear" (believing is creating) is a film done by Santiago Pando, who used to be a successful advertising mexican guru who decided to leave the world of brands to move into a less superficial context. I had the fortune to meet Santiago more than 10 years ago and since then I witnessed his strong sensibility to humans essence. Trabajan a través del arte, la preservación de la cultura y la formación de valores para buscar una sociedad más justa.

When joy ends...

¿Qué es de la vida cuando el gozo por la misma no está presente? ¿cuando nada ni nadie nos entusiasma ni motiva? un vacio total, una absurda realidad, nula razón para seguir vivo.

Por eso, no podemos permitirnos que la alegria por vivir termine, debemos defenderla como sea y encontrarla incluso donde parezca que no existe. Y si no existe... inventarnosla.

Nota: anexo un poema de Mario Benedetti que me hizo pensar en esto, este día: defensa de la alegría

What is live when the joy for living is diminished? when no one nor nothing motivates us or gives us enthusiasm? total voidness, absurd reality, zero purpose for living. That´s why, we can´t allow ourselves to let the joy be gone. We must defend it at any means, find it even where it seems to be impossible to find it and even if it´s not there... perhaps invent it.

Sentenced to live

Este es un "trascendido" de un artículo que vi hace poco en un diario inglés. El artículo hablaba sobre las experiencias de vida de un hombre que estuvo encarcelado. Me dejó impactado su expresión: "estuve sentenciado a la vida, así que tuve que vivir". ¿Sentenciado a vivir?. Él estaba en una carcel física y ahí llegó a tomar conciencia de lo que realmente era la vida. Nosotros que estamos fuera, a veces nos creamos nuestra propia "carcel particular", hecha de problemas, frustraciones, angustias, deseos no logrados y visiones "cerradas" del mundo. Cuando nos damos cuenta de lo absurdo que es ver que nosotros mismos nos metemos en ella, cuando verdaderamente, con conciencia, podemos ver que son "jaulas creadas", en ese momento también podemos darnos cuenta que la llave para salir de ellas es sólo nuestra. --------

This is a highlight from an article I found in an english diary recently. It talked about a man who was in jail for many years. I was shocked with his expression "I was sentenced to life- so I had to live". Sentenced to live? He was in a physical jail and it was there where he discovered what life really was about. Us, outside, sometimes build our very "personal jails", made of problems, frustrations, angers, unachieved desires and closed minded visions of the world. When we realize how abusrd it is, getting ourselves into this "jails", when we, consciously see that these are "ficticious, created jails", it is also in that moment that we have the opportunity to free ourselves. We are the sole owners of the key.

¿Cuántas maneras de expresar el amor existen? tal vez hay tantas formas como seres vivientes hay en el planeta. Y para muestra un botón... o mejor dicho, un mosquito. Hace poco leí un artículo que explicaba que el zumbido de los mosquitos es en realidad la forma en que ellos se comunican cuando quieren aparearse. ¿Es irónico no? lo que para la mayoría de los humanos es molesto, para ellos, es en realidad un acto de amor. Definitivamente, en este mundo, todo es relativo. Mientras que su sonido puede ser molesto para la mayoría de los humanos, es en cambio un "poema de amor" entre estos pequeños ¿amigos?

Not long ago I red an article that explained that the "buzz" that mosquito’s make is indeed the way they communicate each other when they are prepared for mating, it is the way they express their love. A veces quisieramos que la vida fuera siempre de "color de rosa", que no hubiera problemas, dolor, sufrimiento ni confrontaciones. Sin embargo, la vida es todos los colores, todas las experiencias "buenas y malas", placenteras y penosas y gracias a todas ellas es que crecemos, maduramos y comprendemos poco a poco la existencia. De no ser así, nuestra vida seria demasiado plana, mono-cromática. El valor está cuando logramos apreciar y agradecer todos los colores que la vida nos plasma para ver.

I guess we would all love to have a life permanently colorful, without problems, suffering, pain or confrontations. Yet, life is all the colors, not just the bright and nice ones, all the experiences: "good and ugly", pleasant and unpleasant. Thanks to all of them it is that we "grow up", mature and understand little by little our own existence. If it wasn´t like that, life would be one dimensional, monochromatic. The true vale comes when we can appreciate and be thankful for "all the colors" that life let´s us watch.

"Blind love" es un video japones que narra la historia de una pareja que como todos en algún momento de nuestras vidas, nos enamoramos perdidamente. ¿Alguna vez has escuchado esta canción de Vicentico? en cualquier momento en que tengas la moral un poco abajo, es un buen "power boost" para el ánimo. En especial me gusta mucho la parte donde dice "ya no me queda tiempo para sufrir".... es increíble cómo gastamos enormes cantidades de nuestra vida siendo infelices ¿no crees? la mayoría de la gente esta buscando toda su vida esos pequeños instantes de felicidad. Que bueno seria que la felicidad fuera un continuo con uno que otro inevitable instante de tristezas. Todos caemos en momentos de depresión, pero lo más importante es no quedarnos en ellos. A veces, una simple canción como esta es
un pretexto excelente del cual podemos sostenernos, salir "de la depre" y sonreír.

P.D. no se quiénes son los que cantan en este video pero fue el único que encontré en youtube para que pudieras escuchar la canción pero definitivamente conviene mejor que la escuches de la voz de "Vicentico" : )

Have you ever listened to the song "Soy Feliz" from Vicentico. At any moment that you feel a little bit upset, this song is a very nice and positive power boost. I especially like the part where it says "I no longer have time to suffer"... it is amazing how much time we spent on our lives being unhappy, don’t you think? most of the people are trying to pursue "happiness", searching every day for small injections of joy. Wouldn’t it be great if happiness was a continuous in our lives rather than just a few instants. We all fall down in moments of depression, but by no means we should allow ourselves to stay there. Sometimes, a simple song like this one is a great "rope" to take us out of the hole we are at, get out and smile.

P.S. I have no idea who the guys in the video are but it was the only video I found on youtube so that you could listen to the music, but it will be much better if you hear it directly from "Vicentico"

Muchos, en verdad muchos en España ya lo habrán visto. Para todos los que están en otros paises, aquí les va la campaña de publicidad más reciente de Coca Cola llamada "Destapa la felicidad". Todos sabemos que no deja de ser publicidad y que por consecuencia lo que quiere es vender, pero dejando a un lado eso que es obvio pues a eso se dedica, invito a que nos quedemos con el mensaje, que es lo que realmente importa y pensemos en cómo lo aplicamos en nuestra propia vida. ---- Many, really, many people in Spain has seen this already. ¿Alguna vez te has preguntado si estás haciendo todo lo necesario para ser una mejor persona? ¿hay algo que podrías hacer adicionalmente para mejorar? ¿diario? Son preguntas que tal vez nos hacemos de manera inconsciente, automática, pero bien vale la pena hacerlas de manera más consciente para en verdad entender cómo vamos en el camino. Hay una canción que me gusta mucho porque cada que la escucho hace que me vuelva a hacer estas preguntas y saber cómo voy. ¿Realmente estoy haciendo lo suficiente para ser mejor? Ahora, cuando llevamos la pregunta de ¿cómo puedo ser mejor? a ¿cómo puedo ser mejor con los demás? el reto es aún más grande. No se trata solamente de cómo ser mejor yo, sino también con los demás, pero van muy de la mano y se afectan de manera mutua. P.D. La canción la canta Robbie Williams y en especial en este video, la está dedicada a Unicef. ---

Have you ever asked yourself if all that you do is making you become a better person? is there anything in addition that you can do to be better? these are questions that perhaps we make to ourselves in a subconscious, almost automatic way, but I believe that it´s worth making them in a more conscious way to check how are we doing on our way.

There´s a song that I really like because every time I listen to it, it makes me ask myself again... am I really doing ok? doing enough? and even more, when we expand those questions not just to ourselves but to others, the challenge is even bigger. It´s not just about how I am doing, but how I am doing with others, how can I be a better man for the ones around. If I am ok with me, I´ll be ok with them, If I am doing ok with them, I will be fine with myself too.

Hace poco tuve la oportunidad de cumplir un pequeño gran sueño: ver ballenas en el mar. En verdad puedo decir que no hay palabras que puedan describir la sensación. Es algo que se tiene que vivir para poder entender el significado. Impacta, sorprende, enamora. Primero se tiene la incertidumbre ¿las veré? y de pronto, cuando aparece todo se olvida cuando en el medio de esa gran inmensidad aparece, primero fue un aleta, después el lomo y poco después su majestuosa cola negra con manchas blancas. Verla fue imponente, pero escucharla aún más. Al entrar al agua, a pesar de que ya no estaba cerca, se podía escuchar claramente su canto, era como si todo el mar estuviera cantando, alguien le había puesto una melodía al océano donde afortunadamente tuve la oportunidad de haber estado. Definitivamente, una gran ballena y un gran momento. ---

Not long ago, I had the opportunity to achieve a small-huge dream: whale watching!!! I can certainly say that there truly are no words to describe such a sensation. It is definitively something that has to be lived and seen by your own eyes to understand it’s meaning. I felt shocked, amazed, in love. First, you have big doubts... am I really going to see her? Then, suddenly, when it appears in the middle of the wide ocean any thought is totally gone, first I saw a fin, then it’s back and at the very end it’s amazing black and white tale. Watching her was great, but it was even greater having the opportunity to listen to her music. I got into the water, and although she wasn’t close any more, I could clearly listen to her. It was almost as if the whole sea was singing or as if someone had placed a melody on the ocean exactly where I was swimming. Definitively... what a whale! what a while!!!

¿Alguna vez has soñado que vuelas?. A mi me pasa muy seguido, es tan profundo el sueño que cuando me despierto no se si cuando vuelo es real y cuando despierto es el sueño. Real o irreal, sueño o "verdadero" para volar no se necesitan alas; la voluntad, el entusiasmo, la intuición y la imaginación son suficientes recursos para elevarnos hasta donde queramos. A veces es muy dificil librarnos de lo que fuimos y de lo que queremos ser, nos atoramos en memorias y anhelos. Pero una buena manera de librarnos de esa trampa que nosotros mismos nos imponemos es volando: bailando, jugando, riendo... sintiendo el presente con los dedos. Darnos la oportunidad de palpar el presente con todo nuestro cuerpo.. y como dice esta canción, si no alcanzas a palparlo, ponte de puntitas y tocarás el cielo. --- Have you ever dreamed about flying? it happens to me quite often, and the dream is so real that when I wake up I even wonder if when I am flying is real and the dream starts when I wake up. Real, un real, truth or fantasy, flying doesn´t necessarily needs wings; will, enthusiasm, intuition and imagination are enough resources to take us wherever we want to. Sometimes it is so hard to let ourselves be free from what we were and what we want to be. A great way to reach that freedom is by flying... dancing, laughing, smiling... feeling this moment with our finger. Giving ourselves the opportunity to "touch" the present with all our being... and just like this song says, if you think you can´t, just climb a step and you´ll touch the sky.

Una amiga del foro Idealista (Fer) me hizo el favor de eviarme un link al sitio "Breathing Earth", una aplicación que que refleja la situación actual en gran escala de cómo está el mundo en cuanto a las emisiones de CO2, mortandad y tazas de nacimiento en el mundo. Es una excelente referencia general que nos hace reflexionar sobre lo que estamos haciendo con el Planeta, pero también sobre lo que podemos hacer para cambiar esta situación. www.breathingearth.net --- A friend of mine from the "idealista´s forum" sent me a link to the site "Breathing Earth", an application that reflects the current situation of the World´s CO2 emitions, death and birth rates. Evento celestial

Hace unos días tuve la oportunidad de acudir a un evento "celestial". Se llamó "la noche de estrellas" y fue parte de los eventos conmemorativos del llamado "2009, año del espacio". Quedé totalmente maravillado al poder ver a través de decenas de telescopios toda la maravilla que la Tierra tiene como techo.

Los aros de Saturno, el cinturón de Orión en su máximo esplendor, los cuernos de Tauro e incluso mi signo en el espacio... "Cáncer" hicieron que mi fascinación por la existencia creciera cada vez más.

Algo que también me llamó mucho la atención fue la total disposición de la gente de aprender y enseñar. ¿Imaginas que así fuéramos siempre? maravillarnos por la vida, por la existencia y con total disposición a aprender y enseñar entre todos. Tenemos todo un espacio allá arriba y aquí abajo para hacerlo, te invito a hacer de cada día un "evento celestial".

A few days ago I had the opportunity to be part of a "celestial event". It was called "The night of the stars" and it was part of "2009, the year of the space" events. I was totally astonished watching through many telescopes the wonderful ceiling the Earth has.

Saturn rings, Orion´s belt, Tauro´s horns and even my zodiac sign on space "Cancer" made my fascination for existence grow even more.

Something that also caught my attention was the people´s willingness to learn and teach between each other.
Can you imagine a world where everyone acted like this all the time? marveled by life, by existence and with total willingness to teach and learn! We have a huge "space" up there and down here to do it. This is an invitation for you to make each day a "celestial event".

Hace 50 años comenzó la revolución cubana. Depende de a quién se le pregunte, esta historia es genial o terrible, lo que sí es un hecho es que ha sido un fenómeno social y político de tremendo peso local y mundial. En el ámbito cinematográfico, una película cuenta una de las miles de historias de los sueños cubanos: "Habana Blues". En esta película, la canción más memorable es "arenas de soledad". Hay mucho que reflexionar acerca de la letra de la canción. En especial, de lo que más me gusta es el impulso profundo al que invita para no perder la fe a pesar de cualquier circunstancia. ¿Qué seria del ser humano si perdiera"el latido de creer"?

50 years ago, the cuban revolution started. Depending on who you ask to, this story can be great or terrible. But, a true fact is that this has been a huge social and political movement with a tremendous local and global impact. There´s a film "Habana blues" that portraits one of the thousands of cuban dream´s stories. In the film, the most memorable song is "arenas de soledad". There´s so much to think about it. Specially, what I like the most is the deep impulse it gives us all for not loosing our faith, no matter the circumstances. What would remain of humans if our hearts looses "the beat" that makes us believe?

Recientemente "Discovery channel" lanzó este anuncio para latinoamérica. No tiene grandes imágenes ni efectos especiales, es simplemente gente, como tú y como yo compartiendo sus perspectivas del mundo. Cuando lo vi me emocionó bastante porque en verdad creo que el mundo es increíble, hay tanto por descubrir en cada esquina, en cada paisaje, en cada rostro, que a veces parece que falta tiempo para poder "comernos al mundo" con todas las maravillas que tiene.

Recently, Discovery Channel launched this spot for latinamerica. It has no huge images or special effects, it´s just people, like you and me, sharing their world´s perspectives. When I saw it I was really excited about it because I really believe that this is an amazing world. There´s so much to discover... in eveyry corner, in every landscape, in every person. Sometimes it makes me think there´s not enough time to "eat" all the wonders this world has to offer.

Se escucha por todos lados que el 2009 puede ser un año muy complicado a nivel mundial. Esto es bastante probable por las tendencias económicas, sociales y ambientales que estamos viviendo. Sin embargo, mucho depende de nuestra actitud ante lo que venga. Si nosotros decidimos que el próximo año será un "DAÑO nuevo" muy probablemente así sea. En cambio, si dirigimos nuestra actitud a que sea un año verdaderamente NUEVO, fresco y "jugoso" es probable que nuestras acciones nos lleven a que así sea. Es cuestión de cómo decidamos afrontar el porvenir: ¿daño nuevo o año nuevo?

We can hear all over that 2009 might be a complicated year worldwide. This might happen because of the global economic, social and environmental tendencies that we are living. Yet, a lot of it´s effects depend on our attitude towards what´s coming. If we decide that next year will be a year of "Baaaad grapes" for sure it will be like that and the whole year will "taste" quite bad. On the other hand, if we shift our attitude and bet on the "Gooood grapes", strongly believing that it can be a good year, then there are good possibilities that our actions can lead us to taste a good year. It all depends on how we decide to confront the year to come... good grapes or bad grapes?

No puedo dejar de estar tremendamente soprendido del parecido que hay en algunas personas asiáticas y algunas del sur de México. ¿Se hicieron ASIA acá? o los de acá ¿se hicieron ASIA allá? realmente no tengo la más remota idea, pero los razgos en sus caras bien hablan de nuestros pasados entrelazados. Hay tanto que aprender de ambas culturas, en lo personal admiro mucho esas miradas tan "introspectivas" que tienen.

I am totally shocked by the similarities between some of the people in asia and others in the south of Mexico. What happened here?.. and there? I really have no idea but when I look into their faces I can clearly see that we have a deeply connected story. There´s so much to learn from both cultures, I personally admire the deep "introspective" look into their eyes. (life´s an instant: I took this picture in San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas but it could have been taken in any asian city or viceversa).

Kids are just amazing don´t you think?
